The Southern Trade covers Latin American resource politics, trade infrastructure, and governance from the inside out.
Most coverage of this region is written from a distance — by journalists aggregating secondary sources, think tanks managing institutional relationships, or analysts who have studied the subject but never operated within it. This publication is written by a practitioner: an international lawyer with direct experience in U.S.-funded governance reform and anticorruption programs across Latin America, trained across Civil Law, Common Law, and Soviet-derived legal traditions, who often travels to the places being written about and privileges primary sources — court filings, securities disclosures, statistical compilations, government budgets, specialized industry reports, bilateral agreements — that most commentators don’t.
The publication focuses on what those sources actually say, what the structural and operational dimensions of major developments in energy, trade, logistics, and governance actually mean, and what is systematically misread or avoided in mainstream coverage of the region.
It does not publish on a fixed schedule. It publishes when there is something specific to say, documented well enough to say it. Pieces are written for professionals who work in and around Latin America — analysts, operators, corporate decision-makers, lawyers — who want analysis that leans heavily on primary sources.
